Resolved Question: Does a lawyer have to give you your money back if...?

So, I'm seventeen (soon to be eighteen) and I got charged with possession of paraphernalia and marijuana a couple of months ago in Saint Louis County (Missouri.) My court date is next week and I just hired a lawyer this past weekend with my mom's help. I'm using Gary Earlywine at Budget Traffic Law as a lawyer, don't know if that matters. I gave them a down payment of $200, but I just found out from the person I was charged with that it will be cheaper not to get a lawyer and get the same thing done. Basically, she had court today for something else, but she spoke to the judge who is going to be the judge on our court date about our charges, and the judge said that what she'll do is just give us a $300 fine plus a $100 drug class, and as long as we take the drug class, it won't be on our record. So should I just call my lawyer and explain the situation and ask for my money back? Can they just refuse to give you a refund? My mom has my copy of the agreement/receipt at the moment so I haven't looked at it yet. But does anyone know the general answer? I'd understand if they would want like a small fee for the whole thing, but I'm sure they would have to give my money back. Plus I didn't pay them in full, only half. The only reason I want to not use the lawyer anymore is because they're trying to get the same results as what I would get even if I didn't have an attorney. (Drug class + Fine). I am just trying to save as much money as possible because I'm trying to go to college next year and I have to pay for that on my own.... Read More »
